Founded 900 years ago, St Mary’s possesses some of the finest architecture and artwork of any parish church in England. We love to welcome visitors and worshippers to enjoy the glory of this exceptional place of worship, to be inspired, develop friendships, find joy and peace.
Come and see the remarkable ceiling of Kings, constellations of stars which adorn the Holy Trinity Chapel, the 700 brightly coloured and intriguing roof bosses depicting fables and stories, you can explore the carvings on the misericords and even meet the white rabbit, said to have inspired Alice in Wonderland. In addition, you can explore the recent stone carvings of Narnia characters and the women of influence.
Church is staffed by volunteer welcomers and is open Monday -Saturday 11am-3pm in winter and 11am-4pn in winter and Sunday for services.
